{31 Days} Cork Spheres

Day 3: Cork Spheres

When one enjoys a glass of wine as much as I do, one is left with a collection of corks! David and I traveled to Philadelphia a couple of years ago and inspiration hit while we were shopping around in Anthropologie. The designers had created large cork spheres and had them hanging in the windows.

Since then, I have been wanting to make a much smaller sphere for our home. To start this project, I collected a lot of corks, a styrofoam ball, and hot glue. I painted the styrofoam light yellow thinking it would blend in with the corks. Not so much....  If I could do it again, I think I might use a dark brown.

I started by gluing a circle of corks around the sphere...

and then a second...

and then a third...

I then filled each quarter with corks. I noticed there were a couple of holes so I cut a few of my fake corks in half and filled in the gaps.

and there ya go! Cork Sphere!!

This project takes more corks than you would think! But I think it is a perfect accessory to sit on top of my wine bar!

Three Down! 28 to go!!

Wine Bar.... Finally!

I sure know how to drag on a project! haha!

I bought this "wine bar" over a year ago.  I think it must have been used as a stereo in it's former life because the sides had fabric panels to let the sound out.
The side panels were in there to stay. I had to enlist the help of my husband to take them out and this is what we were left with....
Needless to say, we weren't going to be able to re-use it.

At first glance, the green didn't bother me but after living with it in my home... the 70's glazed olive green was getting a little old!

I bought the paint back in September and gave you a hint when I painted my lamps. (See I told you I know how to drag out a project!) Once I finally got to painting, I drug it out another month or so.... I'm easily distracted or too much of a perfectionist! Although it took much longer than it should have, she is so pretty now sitting in my living room!!

For a quick fix for the side panels, I simply cut two pieces of cardboard and wrapped in a chevron fabric fat-quarter that I bought on Spoonflower.
It adds a little quirk to the piece and you know I love chevron!!

The paint color is Olympic "Peacock Tail".

Aww! I love it!!

I think I was a little worried about starting since it was my first painting project. But now, I have a list of fun projects lined up! Have you ever had a project that you put off for way too long?

What {color} Would You Do?

I need some color help.

A few months back I found this beauty at an estate sale for $15! I have big plans to make it a "wine bar".
(Ok maybe not a beauty but one day she will be)
At first, I liked the green- Yes, anyone that knows me knows that I LOVE green! But I realize now (after having looked at this "70's olive green" with a glaze for a couple of months) that she needs some sprucing up! A fresh new coat of paint could do her wonders!

But now I don't know what color to choose! Our walls now are a tan but in our next house (whenever that may be) I would love to have gray walls. So I need the color of this piece to work well with both. AND I plan on putting some blue lamps on top like these:
via Z Gallerie
This option is a little pricy but I have a DIY fix- but more on that later!

Some ideas...
Yellow

Charcoal Gray

Light Blue

Light Green

Navy  Blue

Peacock Blue

Plum

White
All of these were done using Sherwin Williams Color Visualizer. Do you like any of these or would you go for something different!? Please let me know!

What color would you choose?
