Whether they are bright and bold, or neutral and soothing, I love creating a space for a sweet baby and their parents to enjoy. Heck, I'm having a ball designing one for <a href="http://lorrinteriors.blogspot.com/2014/01/back-home-with-big-news.html">my little one</a> now and can't wait to share it with you!<br />
<br />
While I was away in South Africa, one of my good friends had a precious little girl and I was thrilled when she asked if I would help design her nursery! The nursery would include many DIY projects, fun girly fabrics, and pops of bright colors. We played with a few fabric combinations and colors but, in the end, narrowed it down to this pretty little design.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-S-VT_qxW2AI5_1tIiColA2t14jaDTwALH_q_cTKxh5iKnWLrX6ZFd-v5CfA8642jZ6Y5ApO98G4MkIGsDvhlpAMlIrP4mGtchXq_-jsxYyssGbWf8IYhX27bUx3qaxpgtIBZAbJQDwY/s1600/Baby+Lewis+Mood+Board.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-S-VT_qxW2AI5_1tIiColA2t14jaDTwALH_q_cTKxh5iKnWLrX6ZFd-v5CfA8642jZ6Y5ApO98G4MkIGsDvhlpAMlIrP4mGtchXq_-jsxYyssGbWf8IYhX27bUx3qaxpgtIBZAbJQDwY/s1600/Baby+Lewis+Mood+Board.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This room is all about the fabrics and DIY projects. The fun combination of floral and geometric with pops of bright color look great on baby girl's bedding that my friend made herself. She also created a cute bird mobile (similar to <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/86061042848798765/">this </a>one) as well all the art, seat cushions and curtains using some of the same fabrics. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Creating a beautiful space doesn't alway have to be expensive. With a little direction and a lot of DIY-ing, my friend created a precious nursery that didn't break the bank! </div>

I am working on getting back in to the swing of things after my "maternity leave" - and pregnancy leave for that matter. Our little boy arrived June 29th, just three days after we moved back in to our home, and we are head over heels in love with our newest addition.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiltQLDrXH-GQ-etV9gyLhsC_fNMibhhky_CVZUw6o2gUavv7ljjRFxyckp4_IRTxdvyIj3j9GMTs0sGqTEuge3ko8Y9zbTgtJBT7ubl8caKaxer_BYkSwNkVGMMr3UYmpEe4NB6QEBB_Y/s1600/DSC_0709.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiltQLDrXH-GQ-etV9gyLhsC_fNMibhhky_CVZUw6o2gUavv7ljjRFxyckp4_IRTxdvyIj3j9GMTs0sGqTEuge3ko8Y9zbTgtJBT7ubl8caKaxer_BYkSwNkVGMMr3UYmpEe4NB6QEBB_Y/s1600/DSC_0709.jpg" height="640" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
When we left off I was sharing all the plans David and I had for our <a href="http://www.lorrinteriors.blogspot.com/2013/10/long-time-no-see.html">renovation</a>. The renovation is now complete and we are finishing up a few DIY projects on our to-do list. The problem is I feel like each detail of the room has to be perfect before I share it but I know that things will never be just perfect, or at least not for a while!<br />
<br />

I wanted to (<i>finally</i>) check in and let you all know that David and I made it back home safely just a few days before Christmas. With the holidays and trying to somewhat move back in to our house, the days and weeks have flown by. We are now working out all the details of purchasing our home but that hasn't stopped us from already tackling a few DIY projects. I'll be back later with a few updates and tips from our adventures so far in ceiling scraping, painting, and ripping out old carpet. <br />
<br />
But in other news.... David and I brought home a little someone extra home from South Africa!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfclal3iqEsauyGn9keQ0lPCp1U74wwyCyg4ntgY99u0SYU7q9ytg2XsriNQNojqt1KE7N6ifhFPfqWoPbK2N-yLOG6uACubxN6A9x1IAep0w0gSPwxd8cqgIlFn9N0Fu9Qf1OIeqCpmI/s1600/Baby+Airline+Ticket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfclal3iqEsauyGn9keQ0lPCp1U74wwyCyg4ntgY99u0SYU7q9ytg2XsriNQNojqt1KE7N6ifhFPfqWoPbK2N-yLOG6uACubxN6A9x1IAep0w0gSPwxd8cqgIlFn9N0Fu9Qf1OIeqCpmI/s1600/Baby+Airline+Ticket.jpg" height="248" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
That's right!! We have a little one on the way! We are so excited for this next big adventure! He or She will be here in just a short 5 1/2 months so we have a lot to do in order to finish the remodel and decorate a nursery!!<br />

<br />
If you follow me on Instagram (alauraorr), you have already seen these videos but, just for fun, I thought I'd share our families' reactions to the news of our new addition. At Christmas we gave the new grandparents, aunts and uncles, and great grandparents each a Curious George book along with a note that asked them to read the book to Baby Orr in July!<br />

I am completely stumped when it comes to what to do with our fireplace in our home remodel. The plan, regardless of color, is to paint (or stain) both the brick fireplace and the built-ins on either side. But my dilemma is what color? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHoB2VMY22TH8WOhlLcFw9BH0ixwnIiwY1wkEzaooEr4BNXpLJ49HOKijZVvpCpJGJpmhrWcUGtvXtQpZ8kQP7n5Xmf2Z_RFGy_GxfKEjtaz_xls9NkAVVKPLyB4Y50lcUf5SgOUOg-8Y/s1600/Fireplace+Colors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHoB2VMY22TH8WOhlLcFw9BH0ixwnIiwY1wkEzaooEr4BNXpLJ49HOKijZVvpCpJGJpmhrWcUGtvXtQpZ8kQP7n5Xmf2Z_RFGy_GxfKEjtaz_xls9NkAVVKPLyB4Y50lcUf5SgOUOg-8Y/s640/Fireplace+Colors.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />The plan is for the walls and trim to be white throughout the kitchen, living and hallway. We will have <a href="http://lorrinteriors.blogspot.com/2013/11/pretty-pine-flooring.html">light pine wood floors</a> and also replace the existing mantel with a more modern, rustic slab mantel (similar to <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/265571709250486462/">this</a>). For option 1, we could continue with the light and airy look with a white fireplace and white built-ins. But would the fireplace be enough of a focal point or would it simply fade away? <br />
<br />

For option 2, I thought about going with a bold, charcoal gray on the fireplace with white built-ins. I love the contrast but would it be a little too much?<br />

Friends, I need your help. As you can see, I have no idea which direction to go! My fireplace is in your hands - which option would you choose? Comment below with Option 1, Option 2, Option 3, or Option 4. Or if you have any other ideas, I'm all ears!! Thanks for your help! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcDnwW3tpOVZ0KoFbT4XqiKaaYS6jDCBNt1Ui2jUnqCOUHFdsv3moSwN_uSCa1ujJsHYcMHfoNdUpn-ZJSubJE4OLfjTN4BCZngnmhaYwL-TM9ap1AdBZsRosS8wz6b7ALGef3AY9ICS0/s1600/Living+Room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcDnwW3tpOVZ0KoFbT4XqiKaaYS6jDCBNt1Ui2jUnqCOUHFdsv3moSwN_uSCa1ujJsHYcMHfoNdUpn-ZJSubJE4OLfjTN4BCZngnmhaYwL-TM9ap1AdBZsRosS8wz6b7ALGef3AY9ICS0/s640/Living+Room.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
These mood boards are just that - inspiration. Besides the sofa and a couple of kudo horns from here in South Africa, we don't own anything else shown on the board. So don't be surprised if the final result isn't an exact match. <br />
<br />
You may have noticed that I am drawn towards decorating with blues, greens, and grays - and somehow a <a href="http://www.michellearmas.com/">Michelle Armas</a> painting seems to find it's way in to every mood board so far. Seriously, that woman is talented! I thought <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/265571709246385768/">this painting</a> was a great choice for color inspiration but, sadly, it looks like it is no longer available. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi160l1237ysMXS1ZeCHq4fVLLzVMV8vY2tEZ9RBQ9ZdT3_1J4RUx8-G2bzjxYZGo9gF2PPSUt4hwA0Ib082S3wZPLDAHPEXPbqvFwpg5ZXmjLCDjbd_Vv7QNTI1HYJO6meLGbJGfMpn1g/s1600/Living+Room+Color+Inspiration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="354" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi160l1237ysMXS1ZeCHq4fVLLzVMV8vY2tEZ9RBQ9ZdT3_1J4RUx8-G2bzjxYZGo9gF2PPSUt4hwA0Ib082S3wZPLDAHPEXPbqvFwpg5ZXmjLCDjbd_Vv7QNTI1HYJO6meLGbJGfMpn1g/s640/Living+Room+Color+Inspiration.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Half of the living room with be torn down in the midst of our renovation but we do plan to update the fireplace and built-ins with a few DIY projects. Our list includes:<br />
<br />
<u>To - Do:</u><br />
Scrape popcorn ceilings<br />
Install new hardwood flooring<br />
Paint (or stain) brick fireplace (more on this later!) <br />
Build wooden shelves for built-ins and remove glass front doors. <br />
Repaint walls, ceiling, built-ins, trim and doors<br />
Replace ceiling fan<br />
Replace mantel <br />
Bring in art, curtains, etc. <br />
<br />
I love the way this room is heading but I'm a little stumped on what to do with our tall brick fireplace. I'm getting my thoughts together and will be asking for your advice soon! We bought a sofa this weekend! Sight unseen, never sat on, clear across the world but <strike>we</strike> I just fell in love over a computer screen!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wasn't even considering a sofa like this for our living room. I have always loved chesterfields (even more after admiring my friend, Jenn's, <a href="http://ahomeinthemaking.blogspot.com/2013/01/inspired-home-holiday-gifts.html">new addition</a>!) but never thought I could afford one or be lucky enough to run across one. But this past week, I found a Craigslist ad for this sexy, tufted, extra large, sofa that has now changed all of my plans! It's in brand new condition, rarely used, and (in my opinion) will only get better with age! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I know finding a great deal on Craigslist is nothing new, but Texarkana's Craigslist <i>NEVER </i>has anything good! So when I saw this Pottery Barn Grand Chesterfield Sofa pop up for almost half price, I had to act quick!! Our lovely Aunt Nancy went to scope it out, did all the negotiating for us and he'll even be waiting for us in our living room when we get home (thanks again, Nancy)! I'm so in love and can't wait to see this piece in person! Here is some inspiration photos of some sexy chesterfields strutting their stuff! </div>

Flooring for the <a href="http://lorrinteriors.blogspot.com/2013/10/long-time-no-see.html">home remodel</a> has been one tough decision for us. I like the look of hardwood flooring and wanted it throughout the house. But my gosh, the price!! We looked in to other options, like using carpet in the bedrooms, but my heart was still set on wood. Plus, my eco-minded husband loved that they were not packed with chemicals and toxins that are found in other flooring options.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
But then it came to what type? In an effort to keep our costs down, and to bring in the rustic feel we both love, we have decided to go with pine floors. Pine floors are a soft hardwood which does come with both its pros and cons. They can ding and dent much easier than the harder hardwoods, such as oak, but we feel that a few dents and dings might simply add character to our floor making it a great option for us.<br />
<br />

We also have decided to try to DIY the flooring using the same technique that <a href="http://www.younghouselove.com/2013/05/get-on-the-floor/">Young House Love</a> used with an underlayment called Elastilon. We'll be sure to keep you guys updated on how it goes when we get started! In the meantime, here are a few of our inspiration photos.<br />

What is the best flooring option in your opinion? Would you choose wood over carpet for your bedroom? Next on the shopping list is a nice big rug so we don't step out of bed on to a cold floor.<br />

Again, most of the changes are only cosmetic - our bathroom functions just fine, we just want it to look pretty!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpOQ_yQlhjheLtGOZ9avP9ic0XWtQ0oKJ6UBfRozOVozyAQPwu5NCDIU2soQKK6ivjPRduyUdEjRc-6CWqN17SRmkJ4SlsHlfiVnswISl3piLvt35Qh4DaNi1HjmK2lN8skvk9s0rHtro/s1600/Master+Bathroom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpOQ_yQlhjheLtGOZ9avP9ic0XWtQ0oKJ6UBfRozOVozyAQPwu5NCDIU2soQKK6ivjPRduyUdEjRc-6CWqN17SRmkJ4SlsHlfiVnswISl3piLvt35Qh4DaNi1HjmK2lN8skvk9s0rHtro/s640/Master+Bathroom.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
We plan to DIY the majority of the bathroom upgrades including paint, framing the mirror and building the barn door. <br />
<br />
<u>To - Do:</u><br />
Scrape popcorn ceilings<br />
Close half wall between bedroom and bathroom and install barn door<br />
Repaint walls, ceiling, trim and doors<br />
Remove old lighting and replace <br />
Frame out large mirror <br />
<br />
We have our work cut out for us in the master bedroom and bath but we
know once it's done, it will be a great getaway during the remainder of
the renovation.What's your must have in a bathroom? Anything we are leaving out? <br />
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02563535213561523118noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4288222817248310666.post-63635631639526690152013-10-28T08:00:00.000-06:002013-10-28T08:00:00.345-06:00First Things First - Master Bedroom InspirationAs we are planning the timeline of <a href="http://lorrinteriors.blogspot.com/2013/10/long-time-no-see.html">our big renovation</a>, we have decided to start working first in our master bedroom and bath. Although it is not really a part of the renovation, there are a few cosmetic upgrades we would like to make before diving head first in to all the dirty work. Call us crazy, but we are going to try and live in the house through the dust and demolition. That means it is important to us to have a place to 'escape' that isn't completely torn apart. A little retreat from the craziness just outside the door!<br />

Speaking of retreat, my color inspiration for the room came from <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/265571709246006728/">this</a> painting by Michelle Armas. It is peaceful but still has a few pops of
color which I love. Even the name, <i>Heaven</i>, just begs you to come in and
relax. I would love to bring in navy, green, gray, light blue, fresh and
airy whites with a touch of gold throughout the room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSXwAHWUDwJt56jgnC98g9WpaN3D7hzwmlBtcvJjxF3Y634uytGgiPS55yIZZWCDX3lq2hwTwPToP8VHHUm6hT3UmBTUXl3HhgAH3fPjiGNjEGnzLE-MzPdN4vihvXEUYS0O66EpSQ778/s1600/Master+Bedroom+Color+Inspiration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSXwAHWUDwJt56jgnC98g9WpaN3D7hzwmlBtcvJjxF3Y634uytGgiPS55yIZZWCDX3lq2hwTwPToP8VHHUm6hT3UmBTUXl3HhgAH3fPjiGNjEGnzLE-MzPdN4vihvXEUYS0O66EpSQ778/s640/Master+Bedroom+Color+Inspiration.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course, that would require new bedding, curtains, art, etc. I love the idea of starting fresh... my husband - not so much. "<i>Didn't you just buy new bedding a couple of years ago?</i>" Hopefully he'll come around! <br />
<br />
The "Master Bedroom Master Plan" will get underway before we start moving all of our stuff back in to the house. To keep us on track, here is a list of projects we hope to scratch off.<br />
<br />
<u>To - Do:</u><br />
Scrape popcorn ceilings<br />
Remove old carpeting and replace with new flooring<br />
Close half wall between bedroom and bathroom and install barn door<br />
Repaint walls, ceiling, trim and doors<br />
Replace ceiling fan<br />
New bedding (here's hoping!)<br />
Bring in art, curtains, etc. <br />
<br />
These things won't happen overnight but we're hoping to at least knock out a few shortly after getting home! We may be asking Santa to help with painting... or even some new bedding : ) ! Do you have any tips for scraping ceilings or painting like the pros? We'll take any tips we can get! <br />

Are you guys still out there? My goodness - I never meant to take this long of a break from blogging. See, the thing is - I haven't been doing much in terms of DIY or decorating of our flat here in South Africa (or at least not enough to make a decent blog post). But over the last few months, I have been working behind the scenes on some of our biggest projects to date!<br />
<br />
I <a href="http://lorrinteriors.blogspot.com/2013/02/daydreaming-turning-our-first-home-into.html">mentioned earlier</a> this year that David and I have been dreaming of big renovations for our home back in Texas. We have been busy drawing up plans, talking with contractors and playing with colors and finishes. I'm getting excited, y'all!!<br />
<br />
Here is what our house looks like currently....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXDpTh5_rSi-C2-Wv0lx17xPt8J5V-XezPgJ5wWek8DQiUeC2VcmU7RFhlo54-0mTdBI7UoGY8LLeCqz8B6LUiG9DDDA5IiCUpVk2Dx5J__7bij98gmTW3dRqopSpH9paeCYX6huGpAVc/s1600/Current+Plan.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="436" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXDpTh5_rSi-C2-Wv0lx17xPt8J5V-XezPgJ5wWek8DQiUeC2VcmU7RFhlo54-0mTdBI7UoGY8LLeCqz8B6LUiG9DDDA5IiCUpVk2Dx5J__7bij98gmTW3dRqopSpH9paeCYX6huGpAVc/s640/Current+Plan.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And here is how we would like it to look after renovations.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Some pretty big renovations are heading our way, and I'm looking forward to blogging about the progress as we get started on our home! In the meantime, I plan to share some of our mood boards and get your opinion on a few choices I'm stuck on!<br />

My other big project is starting my own interior design business back home in Texarkana early next year.<br />

I will be offering local full service design and also e-design services to anyone not living in the Texarkana area. I'm also working on a website and have had fun playing around a bit with my blog design. Markham Street Design is now part of Laura Orr Interiors.<br />

I had read about the tea
bar on <a href="http://www.theprettyblog.com/2012/05/morning-coffee-at-the-birdcage-cafe/">The Pretty Blog</a> before coming to Stellenbosch so I was very excited to
see it for myself. It is a beautiful little shop with an eclectic mix of chairs
with rustic white wooden tables. The walls are decorated with the prettiest and
most dainty plates and wreath chandeliers hang from the ceiling. </div>

When David and I got married, we moved in and rented a nice home from family back in our hometown. At first I couldn't wait to get "our first place". A place that was all ours- sign our names, write a check and are handed the keys to our first home. Then my grandparents told us their home story-<br />

This past July my grandparents, Nonna and Pops, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. When they first married, they didn't have much. Nonna's dad had a small house "in town" that he basically gave them. She said it needed a lot of work but they moved in and cleaned it up. A few years later, they moved that small house out to "the country" close to her family. Over the years they have added on- a couple of bedrooms here, larger kitchen there, a carport which then turned into a sun room- which is now the house that they still live in today. It was where they raised their kids and all 13 grandkids loved to come for fort-building, swimming and sleepovers all piled up on pallets in the living room.<br />

That got me thinking- what if we turned our first home into our forever home! Now that David and I have moved away from the house for this year, we have really come to appreciate what all that house has to offer! We have fun sketching out our ideas on how we will renovate it- top to bottom, inside and out! We know it's not something we can do all at once, but that over time, we can make this the house of our dreams!<br />
<br />
Stay tuned for our ideas! We hope to get started when we get back home next year!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02563535213561523118noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4288222817248310666.post-63174678970798276992013-01-27T12:17:00.000-06:002013-01-27T12:17:24.901-06:002inn1 Kensington Boutique Hotel<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

If I had it my way (and an endless holiday bank account), I would change up Christmas decor every year. My husband, on the other hand, thinks that idea is ridiculous! So I am using much of what I had last year but tweaking it just a bit! So without further ado- here is our <i>2012</i> Rustic Glam Christmas Tree!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOWSltbjZyxSDgRH2T82_ewyPThEcKCYAf64fDlE23Ndei0QowfsWsz6TnV580viMz7Hbn7aKK0umWn053FfuT8YLsjVUXxOVBgW1Fuf58wj6ZAi4z3-uPiKxMeHUuoZjcWeWSEKdTKcg/s1600/DSC_0062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOWSltbjZyxSDgRH2T82_ewyPThEcKCYAf64fDlE23Ndei0QowfsWsz6TnV580viMz7Hbn7aKK0umWn053FfuT8YLsjVUXxOVBgW1Fuf58wj6ZAi4z3-uPiKxMeHUuoZjcWeWSEKdTKcg/s640/DSC_0062.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I used my "fabric feathers" that I just loved on last year's tree and layered in silver, gold and burlap ribbons. I stuck with my gold, silver, mercury glass and rustic ornaments although I did surprise myself with a few new ornaments that I forgot I bought after Christmas last year! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguK-OXVDzwbBDxoQJrAR8VKS1sh4ZU_iY9JWqUAzjRkHRaZkLIvrKN1QJALrftZNNAQMK-1DlkAUz6C81ETd4W16CNkKg4xRR6jI2keqzti2Gs502tT1o3l71cSTH9c0rBKTVCYa-3A4Y/s1600/DSC_0072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguK-OXVDzwbBDxoQJrAR8VKS1sh4ZU_iY9JWqUAzjRkHRaZkLIvrKN1QJALrftZNNAQMK-1DlkAUz6C81ETd4W16CNkKg4xRR6jI2keqzti2Gs502tT1o3l71cSTH9c0rBKTVCYa-3A4Y/s640/DSC_0072.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I also set up our advent calendar on time this year and we have enjoyed counting down to Christmas!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7F5AJPeVrcyiGPLFHLqIlgRDx9cmTCPUyCDIxhQllugN8JlqOVKoj5jVy6Fuxy5YA9tKtj3By0xBNteXqv4RvR2WaLvEwPIJ1g7bskNHWkUK0WXNNEnsKpb56Hy4vSXhHJeBfJ08NLn8/s1600/DSC_0069.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7F5AJPeVrcyiGPLFHLqIlgRDx9cmTCPUyCDIxhQllugN8JlqOVKoj5jVy6Fuxy5YA9tKtj3By0xBNteXqv4RvR2WaLvEwPIJ1g7bskNHWkUK0WXNNEnsKpb56Hy4vSXhHJeBfJ08NLn8/s640/DSC_0069.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
In the middle of the chaos of trying to pack and move, the glow of the Christmas tree makes the house still feel festive- just ignore the all the boxes!! It just wouldn't be Christmas without the tree and I couldn't stand the thought of not setting it up!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
These past few months have been a little stressful for my mom. Some changes at home and at work have given her a few rough days here and there. I figured what could be a better Christmas gift than some relaxation. An aromatherapy eye pillow is an easy gift to make that will pair well with a glass of wine to help her relax after a long day. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqaYFsJs5LYRoDHjSsYHwD3OH8K63M95itjzDrkuqy0bdQEfpG4kSFt4LQdamEKNTVMl3m1i8EUnAaGLiDcwEVUPxnjHl9MrNuxWfyD2LEedat3wlHgUQu8RErVM-rbMrOlZEBuySt3Rg/s1600/DSC_0096.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqaYFsJs5LYRoDHjSsYHwD3OH8K63M95itjzDrkuqy0bdQEfpG4kSFt4LQdamEKNTVMl3m1i8EUnAaGLiDcwEVUPxnjHl9MrNuxWfyD2LEedat3wlHgUQu8RErVM-rbMrOlZEBuySt3Rg/s640/DSC_0096.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Eye pillows are filled with flax seeds and a few drops
of lavender oil and are supposed to help headaches and work as an
antidepressant. The pillow has the perfect weight to put enough
pressure on your face to contour to it, blocking out the light.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3t803tUkGTtkZWgjlSmunKbJE6q86LONiyWXrkACVr-wNDLAxhLnUPgcEWRJKgS_nzF8VVqKgHtCnlqyAoa6osACqfaEqILmRv5RJTiaa8yyK-xARdWKp2wZzo4xtJl5PFzJxZtD_WeY/s1600/DSC_0108.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4nxAJut1qjPdU41eJSAQ3NszJIHHwEGe7SJ9oxUx7Dt3TxXzSnn8FPT9N4pIXz9MwKn73Z7QwzE-7cXAyqFH52aFOYU-h0XquofzvigckqmuhfAesLUZkcSz4SJKw5g3NHc68qaihbs8/s1600/DSC_0098.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4nxAJut1qjPdU41eJSAQ3NszJIHHwEGe7SJ9oxUx7Dt3TxXzSnn8FPT9N4pIXz9MwKn73Z7QwzE-7cXAyqFH52aFOYU-h0XquofzvigckqmuhfAesLUZkcSz4SJKw5g3NHc68qaihbs8/s640/DSC_0098.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
To create the pillow, I used:<br />
- Two 9" x 3" pieces of fabric scraps<br />
- Sewing Machine and Thread<br />
- Scissors<br />
- Flax Seeds<br />
- Lavender Oil<br />
<br />
First, I sewed the two scraps of fabric together (pretty sides facing each other) on three sides, leaving one of the small sides open. And then turned the pillow right side out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJvjnLv2kZtVtw2dVIzokCkVjAa3rBFQx2vX9FZB2sLeuVf7XZnykvWO2Inn-cJvh2GU4dh5B7Ob84DOBIl8psqEzpobLgV2t-1f816NS6G0bdDgP8B5dCUuz3TyEyEuWq8sRDY6Zba8c/s1600/DSC_0099.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJvjnLv2kZtVtw2dVIzokCkVjAa3rBFQx2vX9FZB2sLeuVf7XZnykvWO2Inn-cJvh2GU4dh5B7Ob84DOBIl8psqEzpobLgV2t-1f816NS6G0bdDgP8B5dCUuz3TyEyEuWq8sRDY6Zba8c/s640/DSC_0099.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Next I mixed the flax seed and lavender oil. I straight guessed on amounts here. I filled the bowl with flax seed and then sprinkled the lavender oil until it smelled good. (Sorry I can't be more specific than that!!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghWywfJpdXLx9CnAh-EQScjJ7UTBiJZJpzyFAoUwZt8-bvr4h1Gbu4tuAS9S06loSpUAPIjFgm-QVz6wW-kQBgXJbou5O-S-01kpgeFI1V_6JXYqI1Fw8ixUDtqrq09LC8CgdI2ijqmmU/s1600/DSC_0106.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghWywfJpdXLx9CnAh-EQScjJ7UTBiJZJpzyFAoUwZt8-bvr4h1Gbu4tuAS9S06loSpUAPIjFgm-QVz6wW-kQBgXJbou5O-S-01kpgeFI1V_6JXYqI1Fw8ixUDtqrq09LC8CgdI2ijqmmU/s640/DSC_0106.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I then stirred and spooned the flax seeds into the pillow and sewed the last end closed. It may not be the prettiest gift under the tree but it sure does smell good! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Over the past couple of years, I have started a collection of canvases with every intention of making a beautiful piece of art for our home. I started one project over two years ago that involved six square canvases but half way through, changed my mind on the direction I wanted to go with art. So, in the meantime, I have six lonely white canvases that have been hanging out in my junk room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi89LlzFeNK6Gmu0Su5jUNmEjxO2iFBTjIEAR5QBUQSu-fC6UcQxAMF8_BnvJoKD9rzKnTHRORd2p0s-BmR-uaQCA9PE_943gytQBZDFJSH63xirH-seXNZSDdMdwYdRhJOMN5Xvoox0QY/s1600/DSC_0040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi89LlzFeNK6Gmu0Su5jUNmEjxO2iFBTjIEAR5QBUQSu-fC6UcQxAMF8_BnvJoKD9rzKnTHRORd2p0s-BmR-uaQCA9PE_943gytQBZDFJSH63xirH-seXNZSDdMdwYdRhJOMN5Xvoox0QY/s640/DSC_0040.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I have <a href="http://pinterest.com/annielaura/art/">pinned </a>so many beautiful art pieces and <a href="http://luliewallace.bigcartel.com/">Lulie Wallace</a>'s gorgeous flower arrangement paintings kept standing out to me. I decided to try my hand at a painting inspired by her work. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmdbEsNaRz6SJn9j8acVSQeiGXduxxY_cipgPsqEEjnpMfM56QHitLnp9MRg5tn-PBw-0dTwtoy07WZ8aCCn4jIlPGeoRJzS5djJCI_OEnREhHmzkY1ysgs3NUgUvZjJTGYmnCb0d8pUw/s1600/DSC_0035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmdbEsNaRz6SJn9j8acVSQeiGXduxxY_cipgPsqEEjnpMfM56QHitLnp9MRg5tn-PBw-0dTwtoy07WZ8aCCn4jIlPGeoRJzS5djJCI_OEnREhHmzkY1ysgs3NUgUvZjJTGYmnCb0d8pUw/s640/DSC_0035.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
What I love so much about Lulie Wallace's paintings is they look so effortless. They have a "sketch-like" feel to the painting that I <i>thought </i>would be simple to try and imitate. I fell in to the paint-inside-the lines-perfectly-trap and my painting started to look more like "paint by numbers" rather than the sketch-like I loved. This project definitely made me appreciate the talent it takes to create a beautiful work of art.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUN3ZtxL0pZGebAIip8P6cudUm9te6cUIqGBJAyP5FiQXO-YqMCbp-dl1H5hH0Lf28AN9KfmltUAarhkA9tFR6xNcTNYGr1NLGdzBR7Ggj3-vHNTzc6BkcloU4UZLTo4jaM47SednItoA/s1600/DSC_0041.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUN3ZtxL0pZGebAIip8P6cudUm9te6cUIqGBJAyP5FiQXO-YqMCbp-dl1H5hH0Lf28AN9KfmltUAarhkA9tFR6xNcTNYGr1NLGdzBR7Ggj3-vHNTzc6BkcloU4UZLTo4jaM47SednItoA/s640/DSC_0041.jpg" width="462" /></a></div>
I went back over with metallic gold, silver and green paints to help give a more sketchy feel. I think it helped a little bit in that department but I also love how the light bounces off all those metallic accents. I love the art work I created but one day maybe I can own a <i>real </i>Lulie Wallace painting.<br />
<br />

Has anyone ever dabbled in creating you own work of art? After this, I have realized my dreams of a large abstract DIY painting maybe be harder than I originally thought! Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02563535213561523118noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4288222817248310666.post-11925310643263251142012-12-06T09:23:00.000-06:002012-12-07T14:49:31.375-06:00Simple Fresh WreathsIn phase 2 or 3 of trying to decorate our <a href="http://lorrinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/12/metalic-mantel.html">mantel</a> earlier this week, I came across four embroidery hoops I had stashed in our junk room and thought they would make great little wreaths. Seconds later, I was out in our yard (with a flash light) clipping greenery off a few bushes we had around our house. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi46TbssbX40142-xbS7IjfzzQbkbqppT_AlPVbDJoWUD4X5hly2E-M9LmVkmbZy8zW9ctVuLkylAK_-WRrYzKdS9bqdHxORkUB0dKFLmr_nZpN-Pvy_hvnTtZro3lWZTJWMs8W45WiN50/s1600/DSC_01272.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi46TbssbX40142-xbS7IjfzzQbkbqppT_AlPVbDJoWUD4X5hly2E-M9LmVkmbZy8zW9ctVuLkylAK_-WRrYzKdS9bqdHxORkUB0dKFLmr_nZpN-Pvy_hvnTtZro3lWZTJWMs8W45WiN50/s640/DSC_01272.jpg" width="424" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I created four of these simple fresh wreaths all within twenty minutes- seriously easy with the exception of a few hot glue burns. Although they didn't work for my mantel, I found a new home for them hanging in front of the window behind our Christmas tree.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ_0MUxyTYenVHz_7LIwdu_IEoYSQYSSkK1PQSsaaQn5pA2M0KVoLqc-KzHSSjeoAdPIBILRv0K09O1ersYvBxk-A4o64_GCVCJLIbP8YIjRa0UunybIBdfLFmD1QkJinrmiszO_u7AwY/s1600/DSC_0127.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ_0MUxyTYenVHz_7LIwdu_IEoYSQYSSkK1PQSsaaQn5pA2M0KVoLqc-KzHSSjeoAdPIBILRv0K09O1ersYvBxk-A4o64_GCVCJLIbP8YIjRa0UunybIBdfLFmD1QkJinrmiszO_u7AwY/s640/DSC_0127.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I put a line of hot glue around the edge of the hoop and then clipped small sections of the greenery to wrap around until the front of each loop was covered. Then I hung each hoop with some leftover silver and gold ribbon I had in my Christmas stash. <br />
<br />
I'm glad I was able to find another home for these cute little things. They may not last all season but there is plenty more greenery where that came from out in the yard! <br />

By using what we had in our Christmas decor collection, I lined our mantel with candle sticks and votive candles mixed with shiny ornaments and our faux zinc "Peace" letters.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw63vkvb02ooCKXVBdiLezXlF3p_nfXePgdl285PtQj_pahbA3lpfX38IVvQI0mdwCdNOkuWp-Phb59joqN7xVcmisnRxjXOFkxKJxuqb35DRMskxa-4Q0EqS7piROz0ffRjHGoveB_i4/s1600/DSC_0116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw63vkvb02ooCKXVBdiLezXlF3p_nfXePgdl285PtQj_pahbA3lpfX38IVvQI0mdwCdNOkuWp-Phb59joqN7xVcmisnRxjXOFkxKJxuqb35DRMskxa-4Q0EqS7piROz0ffRjHGoveB_i4/s640/DSC_0116.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The <a href="http://lorrinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/12/confetti-painted-vases.html">confetti painted vases</a> look great paired with the mercury glass votives and other metal candle holders. I filled the large glass pillar candle holders with silver beaded garland and used white candles throughout.<br />

I used a frilly white frame I had and dangled a few extra ornaments to add height to the middle of the mantel.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfxp5_S5s6ll1KQsD2m6vneD2r2KePVPl1tulYnIdwQTjFgI_fwgIgvimTXwE06T1ziHUa_61s4YoVl3A4EnN7uaZmQQbbXcHlVtnYGiXD9r21asMNfGofeGgjqoC6HaZKHn9KXif1SE8/s1600/DSC_0108.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfxp5_S5s6ll1KQsD2m6vneD2r2KePVPl1tulYnIdwQTjFgI_fwgIgvimTXwE06T1ziHUa_61s4YoVl3A4EnN7uaZmQQbbXcHlVtnYGiXD9r21asMNfGofeGgjqoC6HaZKHn9KXif1SE8/s640/DSC_0108.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
This is like plan "d" for the mantel this year. I tried a few different ideas and finally settled on this layout (for now). Who knows what might change before Christmas!<br />

It just doesn't make sense to go out and buy all new but, then again, I like to change it up just a bit! Last year I used lots of silvers, golds and a few rustic elements and I plan on doing the same this year. For a simple holiday craft, I created confetti painted vases using craft paint and plain clear vases I already had at home.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRp5sm36SyilGBRUplCERMDEJBPli6_M4eevR9DKIg6CRWx18DLZxcBsi9VTZHi1S8y6GbVocSqog7Mka8k7jqHVgIp50_b5gYFAgW7gDbtP7hoKHmNWxJDMaMSN4M7oucSvIYVjeML8c/s1600/DSC_0099.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRp5sm36SyilGBRUplCERMDEJBPli6_M4eevR9DKIg6CRWx18DLZxcBsi9VTZHi1S8y6GbVocSqog7Mka8k7jqHVgIp50_b5gYFAgW7gDbtP7hoKHmNWxJDMaMSN4M7oucSvIYVjeML8c/s640/DSC_0099.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
I pinned a <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/265571709247053604/">colorful version</a> of these vases a while back and knew that a simple metallic version would mix in great with my holiday decor.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmXqX-Q6S0SLWPSs0vuOSRy94igB2tczqu7URyVt3CPPTvXVADPuKCp5vFF0dDfVSv4U3YMCfn6RIhmzU0vomgc0oO1zxTEzaWVIGqd73IJZnO5Ra-i0ei5hnA0L8vpP75ZR6Rq9QLk_Q/s1600/DSC_0044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmXqX-Q6S0SLWPSs0vuOSRy94igB2tczqu7URyVt3CPPTvXVADPuKCp5vFF0dDfVSv4U3YMCfn6RIhmzU0vomgc0oO1zxTEzaWVIGqd73IJZnO5Ra-i0ei5hnA0L8vpP75ZR6Rq9QLk_Q/s640/DSC_0044.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I started with these clear Libby vases that I had left over from our wedding.(I used <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/265571709246782007/">this</a> trick to get out all the melted candle wax!) I had planned on confetti-ing all 7 vases that I had on hand, then decided maybe 5 would look better, then I started working and realized how much time each one took and decided 3 would be great! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPQYTThhk3125BddmIvRPbDVruDFmB01qJqOYztTzqsGXEFIDV8Wg58jeig9QPvFiWe4nObpEM7NrldSWEFPgKqC1hakOlAaLi-CDiovfi_1Mc5iaRbtlDh9DcFyiyGa9M_B6HZPSYueQ/s1600/DSC_0102.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPQYTThhk3125BddmIvRPbDVruDFmB01qJqOYztTzqsGXEFIDV8Wg58jeig9QPvFiWe4nObpEM7NrldSWEFPgKqC1hakOlAaLi-CDiovfi_1Mc5iaRbtlDh9DcFyiyGa9M_B6HZPSYueQ/s640/DSC_0102.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I used two colors of gold and one champagne craft paint. To create the dots, I dipped the wooden end of a paint brush in to the
paint and then dotted the vase. The more paint on the end of the brush
creates a larger dot. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsgmH-b4FFVIVAwZm-m3zVnTJoHTs3c0-a020c4igm4Jtf-DaPJGuVkG0LCzDnOCxyWEfqzgIqz1GSUcVkPM3wn0Mx7Zn_ewe38jD5xm_elaxI-TeIFb7h_PsHWBgo-dYdPTf1cCPGiAY/s1600/DSC_0106.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsgmH-b4FFVIVAwZm-m3zVnTJoHTs3c0-a020c4igm4Jtf-DaPJGuVkG0LCzDnOCxyWEfqzgIqz1GSUcVkPM3wn0Mx7Zn_ewe38jD5xm_elaxI-TeIFb7h_PsHWBgo-dYdPTf1cCPGiAY/s640/DSC_0106.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZtXRH1wPHq3rKrz0kv2afBwOSPY7QJsjpTNgBf9R_zpqNUzf5JA2NhTLpfBM8bkp79-LOIkgl4Qyd0daVwflI9iKjRhgZmMeSV7irFWZ8vka53DhVd7iHd3UOduIxc3d8Eg951JLaMyc/s1600/DSC_0048.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZtXRH1wPHq3rKrz0kv2afBwOSPY7QJsjpTNgBf9R_zpqNUzf5JA2NhTLpfBM8bkp79-LOIkgl4Qyd0daVwflI9iKjRhgZmMeSV7irFWZ8vka53DhVd7iHd3UOduIxc3d8Eg951JLaMyc/s640/DSC_0048.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
I started with the darkest color, then added the middle shade, and then the lightest color on top. In between colors, I used a hair dryer to quickly dry the dots. Also, if some of the dots got too thick, I dried them just enough before spinning the vase to keep the dot from running. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBIMsApll9xjIy6mSODsoAENfvwissUnMPehqOL_5tPFCWmuh72PxUVeTOG3AgvDJzoBQLBlVqlqBP3lGnJXkqjt7HK10pWF0XubND73v0zWRcL1hAD9tX_93AQ48Wgc74TL4itWncmek/s1600/dot+progress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBIMsApll9xjIy6mSODsoAENfvwissUnMPehqOL_5tPFCWmuh72PxUVeTOG3AgvDJzoBQLBlVqlqBP3lGnJXkqjt7HK10pWF0XubND73v0zWRcL1hAD9tX_93AQ48Wgc74TL4itWncmek/s640/dot+progress.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The directions then say to place in a cold oven, preheat to 350 degrees, bake for 30 minutes and then turn off the oven and cool completely while the glasses are still in. I kind of skipped this step but I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually!! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRJSyRMAeez7fTPk7q_tasmxCyBkgjuI1g9Pc3imIod3CP_j33h7cF0DHi6hgW9hykU_3f0HN1eyTBeKXs4SLvHtnJl-T-RfY9R5VhJpqmnb6jJmlx3i8IdhEnZbT43QG_To0Uf7RpTjw/s1600/DSC_0093.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRJSyRMAeez7fTPk7q_tasmxCyBkgjuI1g9Pc3imIod3CP_j33h7cF0DHi6hgW9hykU_3f0HN1eyTBeKXs4SLvHtnJl-T-RfY9R5VhJpqmnb6jJmlx3i8IdhEnZbT43QG_To0Uf7RpTjw/s640/DSC_0093.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
My plan for the mantel was to cluster many metallic candles together but I am running a few short since I only decided to create three confetti vases. I have a little tweaking to do to the mantel but I'll come up with something! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0pjmXI7vpWLLp0kKy1vh2bWKxr9qaViUrHwDYctjEd1jcMdLTf76p3KlZkLJGzVhWF4z7uLW76znocHjI5I_mduT66c8f0UX6Ll212X9azCDlLSfGhkt0hLtEtZ9kQvGlmxnh4BP11QM/s1600/DSC_0095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0pjmXI7vpWLLp0kKy1vh2bWKxr9qaViUrHwDYctjEd1jcMdLTf76p3KlZkLJGzVhWF4z7uLW76znocHjI5I_mduT66c8f0UX6Ll212X9azCDlLSfGhkt0hLtEtZ9kQvGlmxnh4BP11QM/s640/DSC_0095.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
These are pretty with a little candle in them but will also look great with flowers for non-christmas-y occasions! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I spotted this <a href="http://www.frenchbull.com/our_store/kitchen_2/Ziggy-Floor-Mat">Ziggy Mat</a> in the June/July issue of HGTV Magazine but I couldn't dish out $40 on a kitchen mat. I decided to take the not-so-cute foam kitchen mat that I already had and paint it to look like the Ziggy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMr3QPj32oLIOEYu25yXLZQc48aEhFa-5OEOkrJ1yu3T0h6bbZWTlvjCUJkvNd_qCL9k-DphvDckLBK4aL-_L2thjVgBqn2paix8ADss4eEO2t0pFqwh3jJnqiKS6s3CEe4745RK3DscY/s1600/DSC_0003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="442" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMr3QPj32oLIOEYu25yXLZQc48aEhFa-5OEOkrJ1yu3T0h6bbZWTlvjCUJkvNd_qCL9k-DphvDckLBK4aL-_L2thjVgBqn2paix8ADss4eEO2t0pFqwh3jJnqiKS6s3CEe4745RK3DscY/s640/DSC_0003.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I planned for this project to be one of my first in my 31 Days Project and then tried to hurry and finish in time for the latest Pinterest Challenge- which neither happened in time. Now, it has sat finished for a couple of weeks before I got around to blogging about it! <br />
<br />
To start, I took the kitchen mat we already had and added a layer of primer. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiREsCFndskPmS3Qbs6MDS2zikLKVv_3TtZ4BTbUCN0N2tS70JQlSb7MWxS5Gxx1BEHsExWrQu5T_6ysr2Twig4MlWeK4zQPlMW4KDwTG1guTyzGk4RZR9EGC7zxQ896tOf9RX2IJOXKi4/s1600/DSC_0039.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiREsCFndskPmS3Qbs6MDS2zikLKVv_3TtZ4BTbUCN0N2tS70JQlSb7MWxS5Gxx1BEHsExWrQu5T_6ysr2Twig4MlWeK4zQPlMW4KDwTG1guTyzGk4RZR9EGC7zxQ896tOf9RX2IJOXKi4/s640/DSC_0039.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijgymTtcC-EjeWd9-JeCeWVxoXVK6yj75CwLbASK_GCQyUnVIaTlKcsM2kSqPD3GiSLBPktIk6vh9sky9p51W86LcqhqZ7LahZEHANKkelAMfhFu1tfI-3aORF1wJ9CgNl_o7DM3cXZTc/s1600/DSC_0043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijgymTtcC-EjeWd9-JeCeWVxoXVK6yj75CwLbASK_GCQyUnVIaTlKcsM2kSqPD3GiSLBPktIk6vh9sky9p51W86LcqhqZ7LahZEHANKkelAMfhFu1tfI-3aORF1wJ9CgNl_o7DM3cXZTc/s640/DSC_0043.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
By looking at my inspiration and guestimating how wide each stripe was, I marked each line and then taped off every other one. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5IPB3z_uvouJ88jzNvh-934GSwa-TX-L24TTvIh5l_KpZu7poymB7me4crGVYLZyOu2uQeBsCivZIbhN5Z4FVDu18F6g_RXYBEJnt1lXL-KYNcoCoEKAG2MLqmhFxsQxGFMkmUiazh7o/s1600/hgtv+mag+page.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5IPB3z_uvouJ88jzNvh-934GSwa-TX-L24TTvIh5l_KpZu7poymB7me4crGVYLZyOu2uQeBsCivZIbhN5Z4FVDu18F6g_RXYBEJnt1lXL-KYNcoCoEKAG2MLqmhFxsQxGFMkmUiazh7o/s400/hgtv+mag+page.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I then marked off each of the diagonal lines every three inches or so. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyO7iwSOgsXQ6OtxU9bGK-FZqMLD1-iAH2nRuHSjoWa_5UKypL6b2sN1V61o8XPd96e5ajNywgZzcnCoEp0OXXEbfUIunv6-bnBY8cyImA6ylCaHzBM53Rh3D8m_4uuihUCFYaLLcB_U8/s1600/DSC_0009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyO7iwSOgsXQ6OtxU9bGK-FZqMLD1-iAH2nRuHSjoWa_5UKypL6b2sN1V61o8XPd96e5ajNywgZzcnCoEp0OXXEbfUIunv6-bnBY8cyImA6ylCaHzBM53Rh3D8m_4uuihUCFYaLLcB_U8/s640/DSC_0009.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I used craft acrylic paints from Hobby Lobby in many colors. I started to match the colors to that of the original mat but ended up choosing some that I liked more.<br />

The tape kept my vertical lines crisp and straight, but to avoid the time of taping off every other diagonal section, I free-handed those edges. <br />

I taped off the edges again and then started painting the second set of stripes. I had a few touch ups to make at the end but overall the Frog Tape worked well! To finish, I added a couple of thin coats of wipe-on poly. This just protects the craft paint from any spill or dirt that may get on the mat. I have had a few spills and drips to clean up and I am happy to report they wiped off easily with a damp paper towel!<br />

This mat adds a great pop of color to my otherwise tan kitchen! I absolutely love it!! It took quite a bit of time but I'm so glad I did it! Using the mat and paints I already had at home, I would say this mat is a steal of a deal compared to the $40 competitor!! <br />

Our city's parks department hosts Movies in the Park and plays favorite movies each Thursday night in April and October. This year we decided to go to the annual Halloween showing of our hometown thriller- The Town That Dreaded Sundown.<br />

In the envelope I included the info sheet describing the date and some of our favorite candies to snack on.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Town_That_Dreaded_Sundown">The Town That Dreaded Sundown</a> is a movie loosely based on a true story about unsolved murder mystery cases in the Texarkana area- including Spring Lake Park- back in 1946. The "Phantom Killer" murdered five people over the course of a couple of months and had the town of Texarkana in fear of who would be lurking around outside after the sun went down. The Phantom Killer was never identified and could still be out there today!! buhahaha..... <br />

<br />
It was my first time to see the movie. I was a little scared-y cat and thought the idea of watching this movie in the same park where some of the murders occurred was just a little too much for me! But it wasn't as scary as I first thought. <br />

The annual showing is a big event and there was a great turnout this year. We sat out our lawn chairs, bundled up and enjoyed the movie. <br />

To anyone thinking of creating a Date Basket- David and I have really enjoyed our dates! We are kind of sad that we only have two more left but hope that we can keep the dates up even after we <a href="http://lorrinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/11/home-is-wherever-im-with-you-big-move.html">move to Africa</a>!! Has anyone come up with any fun dates of your own? I would love to hear!! Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02563535213561523118noreply@blogger.com1
