Simple Word Art

I have been pinning a ton of graphic art and prints lately. Ones that I think would look great in my home or even some that could be personalized for a fun gift at Christmas or a wedding. I got to thinking how easy it really is to create your own printable word art through a simple program on your own computer. I am by no means a graphic artist! (I wish I was)! I have dabbled in Photoshop but I don't know enough about it to make a piece of art. One program I do know how to use (and don't laugh at me) is Microsoft Word! Haha! Ok- I had to laugh at myself! I told you I was no graphic artist! But it is simple!!! Here are a couple of pieces I pinned thinking they would be a great wedding present!

The first step is to find fonts you like and install them on your computer.  There are hundreds of free fonts available online if you simply search for them at sites like Dafont and Kevin and Amanda and many, many more. If you have a PC  here are some simple instructions on how to install your new fonts. Once you’ve installed your fonts you can get to work creating your own word art!

To start- open up a new Word document and 'Insert' Word Art. I chose a font I liked and then typed in the first line of text. I then adjusted the height and length to fit the page. After that, I just copied and pasted that one line- editing the text and only the height as I went.
I changed the one line with my husband and my name to be a reddish color. The rest are all the same gray.

And I made sure the dimensions of the word art would print out the size of an 8" x 10" picture.

For the other Graphic Art- I basically did the same thing.

This time I changed up the font and color on each line. I printed this one to be a 5" x 7"
After I printed them off, I placed them in simple frames with white mattes. I thought they turned out pretty good for a Mircosoft Word piece of art!
What fun artsy things have you done on your computer? Do you have more skills when it comes to the actually programs made to do these kinds of things? Any tips on how to make graphic art on other programs such as photoshop?

  3. Great job! Your Word Art came out so cute!! By the way, I'm totally with you on using Microsoft Office (and PowerPoint) to do crafts. If I can't do it in Office, then I can't do it at all! For the Pinterest Challenge, I actually make a photo collage in the shape of the number "1" for my husband for our first wedding anniversary - using PowerPoint, haha.

  7. I have been playing with word are lately. I was wondering how you print these? Do you print from your home printer or have them done at some place like kinkos?
    Thanks!

  8. Mackenzie- I printed this off at my office with a commercial copier/printer but otherwise I would have sent it to a copy center to print.

    2. Also, would it be too much trouble to list all the fonts, for both pieces? I want to replicate these as closely as possible.

    3. For the couples word art I used "Scribble Box" for all. The other piece is like this:

      {skinny} jeans
      Emmy 3D
      KG Dancing on the Rooftop
the Blue Cabin (of= Highland Perk) the Blue Cabin
      Fat Wedge
      Jellyka Delicious Cake

I found most of these on dafont.com and other free font websites I found through Pinterest.

  12. Such a cute idea! How do you get the text to fill the width of the text box? Thanks!

  13. NJJan- I used Word Art under Insert-Picture. The words will fill the text box and you can adjust the height and width.

  17. I've been fighting with this for a little while now. I can't get my wordart to stretch to fit the page and it doesn't change in size for me either. I'm using Word 2010. Any ideas?

  18. Ashley- when you click on the word art you have inserted, there should be little blue dots that pop up on the corners and edges. If you click and drag one of the dots, you can stretch the words to fit the page or whatever size you want to make it. Font size doesn't matter- just drag the corner or edge dot and stretch to the size you want.

    1. I second the question above, where does the heart come from? I did the ALT+3 but it doesn't look like your heart...your's is cuter

  19. I figured it out!

    Select your WordArt.
Click on Drawing Tools Format at the top to get the menu.
Select Text Effects-> Transform-> the first item under "Warp"

  20. That's if you're using word 2010, it will allow you to stretch the text to fit the page. Laura, I can't figure out how to make sure it's 8x10 size without printing multiple times and adjusting. What are you doing?

    1. I try to line it up with the "rulers" at the top and side of the screen. I still had to print off a few simply because each frame can be just slightly different than another of the same size. But that will get you close to the size of the print.

    2. Thanks! At least I know it's not wasted effort :)

  21. I downloaded the font you used for the couples names art. How did you make the heart? I don't see it

    1. The heart is just clip art that I found through Microsoft Word. You can also google "heart clip art" and see if you find something you like.

  22. I am having a heck of a time with this. Sounds easy enough--but I can not find Drawing Tools Format at the top to get the menu to stretch my words. Can someone help? Is it possible to email me their document and I can change the bride and groom names?
I think of myself as kinda computer savvy but can not get this! :)
    Thanks!
