Metallic Mantel

Sparkle, shiny metallics and candlelight- our mantel this year is full of all three. By using what we had in our Christmas decor collection, I lined our mantel with candle sticks and votive candles mixed with shiny ornaments and our faux zinc "Peace" letters.

The confetti painted vases look great paired with the mercury glass votives and other metal candle holders.  I filled the large glass pillar candle holders with silver beaded garland and used white candles throughout.

I used a frilly white frame I had and dangled a few extra ornaments to add height to the middle of the mantel.

This is like plan "d" for the mantel this year. I tried a few different ideas and finally settled on this layout (for now). Who knows what might change before Christmas!

Just in case you were wondering- here is my mantel from 2011.

{31 Days} Glitter Pumpkins and Fall Mantel

Note:  Due to some unforeseen family illnesses, I am having to play catch-up on my 31 days challenge! Thank you for reading!

Day 11: Glitter Pumpkins and Fall Mantel

I love fall! We are still feeling some summer heat but we're getting there. To help give Texas a hint, I did a little fall decorating here in our home.

I decided this year to use brighter and cooler colors than the typical warm fall colors. I created a yarn wrapped leaf wreath, painted a chevron pumpkin and added a little bling with colorful glitter pumpkins.

These pumpkins are easy! I started by sponge brushing on some modge podge on the top of the pumpkin, leaving the stem clean.

Then I sprinkled on some glitter out of my stash from my sorority days.

I love the color and sparkle that these pumpkins add to our bright fall mantel.

Spring Mantel

Although it has felt like *almost* summer here in our neck of the woods (ok... not really! I'll be wishing it felt this good in the summer), Spring has definitely shown up a little earlier than expected and has inspired me to bring a little color on to our mantel.

I left the large gold mirror and rustic white iron gate from our holiday mantel and a few other gold touches like the candle sticks and hexagon print candle holder.

On one side I added some wooden candlesticks, the hexagon candle, a little white bird and an arrangement that I had made sometime last year! I want to add some spring-y colors with flowers but I just haven't found anything that I like so far.

On the other side, I added a wooden bird house, the gold candlesticks, a "basket of succulents", and a cute blue bird!

For my spring decor, I just shopped around the house. Like I said, I need some color in the arrangement and maybe a fun wreath or something to hang from the gate. But not bad for using what I had on hand!!

Wishing you all a happy spring!

Deck the Halls {Merry Mantel}

This year I wanted our mantel to sparkle! I used a mix of golds, silvers, mercury glass and twinkle lights!

I wrapped our garland in silver and gold ribbons and then tucked in silver ornaments.
I spray painted the finial that sat on our fall mantel. It was red but is now a pretty hammered gold. I bought the mercury glass trees and candle holder and then added one of my cute owls on one side...

On the other side I have my gold mercury glass candle sticks, striped candle holder, another cute owl, and a gold hexagon faux candle that I picked up from Salvation Army.
The hexagon candle looks really yellow here but it doesn't normally look that way. It flickers and is ok to forget to turn off before going to bed! I would have burned the house down the other night if it was real!
I backed my mirror with another strand of lights to make it stand out a little more from the brick.
I am working on of fun wreath and some stockings to hang with care for my sweet little family. But for now, my mantel is just enough sparkle and glow to light up our living room!

Autumn Mantel

My autumn mantel has (halfway) come together! Everything is in place but it still needs a little tweaking in the next few days.
I have big plans for this plain grapevine wreath that involves tons of prickly pine cones and maybe a little glitter!
I love the so-ugly-it's-cute gourd, squash, pumpkin... whatever it is in the middle! I just couldn't pass it up!
These pumpkins have been dying for a little color! They're pretty the way they are but I could see a modern pop of fall colors.
