{Date Night} October

Continuing on through our date basket, David and I went on our October date a couple of weeks ago.  Our city's parks department hosts Movies in the Park and plays favorite movies each Thursday night in April and October. This year we decided to go to the annual Halloween showing of our hometown thriller- The Town That Dreaded Sundown.

In the envelope I included the info sheet describing the date and some of our favorite candies to snack on.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown is a movie loosely based on a true story about unsolved murder mystery cases in the Texarkana area- including Spring Lake Park- back in 1946. The "Phantom Killer" murdered five people over the course of a couple of months and had the town of Texarkana in fear of who would be lurking around outside after the sun went down. The Phantom Killer was never identified and could still be out there today!! buhahaha.....

It was my first time to see the movie. I was a little scared-y cat and thought the idea of watching this movie in the same park where some of the murders occurred was just a little too much for me! But it wasn't as scary as I first thought.
sorry for the grainy iphone photo!
The annual showing is a big event and there was a great turnout this year. We sat out our lawn chairs, bundled up and enjoyed the movie.

To anyone thinking of creating a Date Basket- David and I have really enjoyed our dates! We are kind of sad that we only have two more left but hope that we can keep the dates up even after we move to Africa!! Has anyone come up with any fun dates of your own? I would love to hear!!

{Date Night} September

Sometimes things don't go according to plan. That is the one down side of this date basket idea. It's hard to know what your calendar will look like 10 months out. September's date from the date basket was originally a weekend trip out of town but we had been gone every weekend for a month so I quickly changed the date out before David opened his envelope. We had a simple date to our local fair for some yummy fried food and fun people watching! : )
In the envelope I included the info sheet describing the date- and that was it.

We had a great time and I finally got the funnel cake I had been craving!!!  We ran into some of our good friends and enjoyed the long talks and fair food!

It was an easy simple date that we could only do once a year! Anyone have a favorite fair food?  We didn't get any fried oreos this year although I have heard they are delicious!!

{Date Night} August

Last month David and I celebrated our second anniversary by going on our August date from our date basket. My sister's wedding was the weekend before and we were leaving for a family vacation the next week so we didn't really have the time or money to go all out on our anniversary so this date was the perfect solution!

In the envelope I included the info sheet describing the date, a gift card to the restaurant, a picture of the two of us from one of our first dates and the DVD of the movie we went to see.

We started with dinner at Ironwood Grill (still our favorite restaurant in town). On the way home, we chased the end of a beautiful rainbow before heading home to a bottle of wine and Seven Pounds. This movie is a little different but still a pretty good flick.

A second part of our August date envelope was to create a time capsule that we will open ten years from now on our 12th anniversary.

In the envelope I included an info sheet describing the time capsule project, a 2022 calendar with our anniversary circled, and a list of possible things to add in our time capsule.

We are still working on collecting everything we want to add.

This was a great and simple way to celebrate our anniversary! September's date is coming up!

{Date Night} July

Although I took a little break from my blog in July, David and I still kept up with our monthly date from the date basket. Ever heard of a bar crawl? Well, July's date was a night on the town with a Restaurant Crawl.

In the envelope I included the info sheet describing the date and three envelopes for each course of the meal (Appetizers, Dinner, Dessert & Drinks 1, 2 & 3). The idea was for David to pick one appetizer envelope, go to that restaurant and then choose the next envelope after that portion of the meal was finished. Well... It didn't work out like that (David had to know where all we were going ahead of time) but we still had a great time!

Our first stop was appetizers at Chili's followed by dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse. We then had TCBY for dessert and stopped by Timothy's for drinks to end the evening!

We had a great time. We typically never get appetizers, dinner, dessert and drinks all in one night so it was a real treat!

Have any of you started your own date baskets? I would love to hear of the fun dates you have planned!!
