{Date Night} April

Our date for the month of April was a simple but sweet date. We had a picnic in the park last Saturday afternoon.

In his envelope I included the info sheet describing the date and a gift card to Subway. I also included a corkscrew for the bottle of wine I had hoped to bring but we ended up saving the wine for another time.

We split a subway sandwich and grabbed a bench right next to the pond.

It was a beautiful day and a great way to stop all the busy-ness of our weekend and enjoy just spending a little time together.
We both agreed that it is something we should do more often.

So far all of the dates I planned have been a hit! I may need a few back-up date ideas though! David is starting to steal my ideas without even knowing it and leaving me without a date for the month of June! Anyone have any fun date ideas up their sleeve? Please share!!!

Doorways Home

David and I took part in a charity event last week- the Doorways Home Auction.

"This event takes 1950’s era doors and medicine cabinets from the Housing Authority demolition of Griff King, puts them into the hands of talented Texarkana area artists, and the results are auctioned off to raise funds for the Texarkana Homeless Coalition to support events and activities designed to minimize homelessness in our area."

This is the second year for Doorways Home. We had 25 doors and 7 medicine cabinets painted, mosaic-ed, feathered, and completely reworked in to beautiful pieces of "art".

David and I redesigned two doors. We went for more of a "functional" design rather than a piece of art. The "Command Center" was something we thought someone could use in their home or even in a classroom.
We attached a magnetic, dry erase calendar, a corkboard, mail slot, four buckets holding pens, sticky notes, push pins and chalk along with a fun chalkboard.

Our second door is a "Herb Garden". We truly enjoy our herb garden and when I found this idea on Pinterest, I knew it would make a great door!
We attached mason jars to the door with pipe clamps (found in the duct work area at Lowes) and then labeled each herb with a chalkboard tag. We  planted basil, parsley, oregano, spearmint, rosemary, sage, cilantro, peppermint, and stevia. This one was a hit and had everyone talking!

We had a great turn out for the auction. The President of our Chamber of Commerce was our auctioneer (and no, we don't all dress in the cowboy get-up here in Texas).

Overall it was a great event. We were able to raise over $6,000 to help the Texarkana Homeless Coalition.

Wine Bar.... Finally!

I sure know how to drag on a project! haha!

I bought this "wine bar" over a year ago.  I think it must have been used as a stereo in it's former life because the sides had fabric panels to let the sound out.
The side panels were in there to stay. I had to enlist the help of my husband to take them out and this is what we were left with....
Needless to say, we weren't going to be able to re-use it.

At first glance, the green didn't bother me but after living with it in my home... the 70's glazed olive green was getting a little old!

I bought the paint back in September and gave you a hint when I painted my lamps. (See I told you I know how to drag out a project!) Once I finally got to painting, I drug it out another month or so.... I'm easily distracted or too much of a perfectionist! Although it took much longer than it should have, she is so pretty now sitting in my living room!!

For a quick fix for the side panels, I simply cut two pieces of cardboard and wrapped in a chevron fabric fat-quarter that I bought on Spoonflower
It adds a little quirk to the piece and you know I love chevron!!

The paint color is Olympic "Peacock Tail".

Aww! I love it!!

I think I was a little worried about starting since it was my first painting project. But now, I have a list of fun projects lined up! Have you ever had a project that you put off for way too long?
